Isn’t it odd, how when it’s February, it seems like summer is a long way away? And, then in May, as the end of the school year is approaching, it just seems like summer will n-e-v-e-r come.
And then, it’s here! And it’s FLYING by!!!
For a season without the school schedules and the suspension of various community meetings as people head out on vacation, it seems that the pace of time should slow, that summer should be lazy and languid, and that its inherent freedom should stretch out FOREVER. At least until school starts again!
Inherent freedom. Yes, I did just write that, and now I wonder – is freedom inherent anytime, anywhere? Or is that just our expectation? Or as adults, a fond, hazy memory, that may not be all that accurate?! When it comes to summer, who knows?
But, freedom in our imperfect world may not be inherent. With the 4th of July coming, it should be easy – or at least important to remember that freedom requires courage, determination and a lot of hard work.
In appreciation of all the effort that went into securing our freedom, I’m sharing these quotes. I think #20 is my favorite; couldn’t all of us now, about 240 years later, benefit by remembering this every day?
Thomas Jefferson: “My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy!”
But #19 gets to the heart of the effort that goes into securing freedom:
William Faulkner: “We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.”
And practicing it takes courage, determination and strength!
We at KYVAN® hope the precious blessing of our freedom is the center of your 4th of July celebration, and that we all appreciate it EVERY DAY!
Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
Appreciate the Goodness!
