How can anyone adequately express the overwhelming shock of the destruction left by the Moore, OK tornado this week?
In just one of many stories published in follow-up to the disaster, the National Weather Service confirmed it was an EF-5 tornado, which packs winds as high as a Category 5 hurricane. One news article shared the following:
“An EF-5 is as bad as it gets,” said Joe D’Aleo, co-chief forecaster for WeatherBell Analytics. “It’s equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane. It means winds were more than 200 miles per hour, and it means you have to be underground, because there will be nothing left above ground.”
The same article went on to speak of this tornado as releasing more destructive energy than the atomic bomb released over Hiroshima.
…. “you have to be underground, because there will be nothing left above ground.”
We sit hundreds of miles away from Oklahoma here, seeing mind-numbing pictures of an obliterated community. We cannot begin to fathom how overwhelming this must be seeing it first hand, even as an “outsider” to the Moore community. And to be a resident of the area, viewing all that is gone, dealing also with the loss of loved ones and neighbors…..
Our prayers, our hearts are with you, people of the Moore, OK community. We feel helpless in our desire to help, knowing there is little we can literally “DO”. But we pray, and we do what everyone else does who wants to help, but does not know how. Send contributions. On KYVAN™ sales now through May 31, 2013 we will donate $0.10 for every unit sold to the American Red Cross up to $500.
